Long Island Camps and Private Schools (LICAPS) was originally established under the name of The Long Island Association of Private Schools and Day Camps.
Just recently, the association adopted the shorter current name of LICAPS.
This professional association was formed in the early 1950’s at a time when the post war population of Long Island was booming. At the same time, the growth of private schools and camps grew significantly to meet the needs of this frenetic growth spurt.
Since its inception, LICAPS has been the standard bearer of quality programming for the children of Long Island in the areas of education, health and recreation.
Dedicated to the enrichment of children, LICAPS has a long and proud history of involvement within the Long Island community.
LICAPS has worked closely with many like minded organizations to develop high standards in safety and supervision for children. Be it the Nassau & Suffolk County Departments of Health, the American Red Cross, The American Camp Association, or The NY State Camp Directors Association.
LICAPS has been a partner in advocating for the youth of Long Island while working closely with a broad spectrum of philanthropic organizations throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties.
For over a half century, LICAPS has been on the local scene building a better Long Island for all to work, learn and play.
